Unrequited Love

What’s the matter darling?

Eyes darting around like a child in a candy store
Every text, every sound sending a flutter through that cold heart
The remote control lying beside you like the forgotten montage of an old romance movie,
Listless and black
Black, Like the color that engulfs your mind!

Take stock of the clothes piling on the corner chair
Look! the forgotten toast crumbs that you promised to clean post breakfast
Now adorns the lonely dining table
Almost begging for your company

Come on now! Twist and turn your messy hair
Whistle the offbeat tunes to that forgotten song
And drown the voices in your head
Which screams at 1000 decibel now
Mourning the death of promises made
And of unrequited love

Oh my love! Just silence the fluttering of your restless heart!
